Tara Rum Pum and spitoons
NASCAR the American National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing attracts a demographically homogeneous audience. Of the 75 million NASCAR fans, most identify with right-leaning conservative Republican party. Which made it ripe for last year's farcical Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby, with Will Ferrel (Saturday Night Live) and Sacha Baron Cohen (Borat). But I was left wondering, for all 145 minutes of Tara Rum Pum: why NASCAR?
Are Bollywood audiences now identifying with wife-beater (banyan) wearing, tobacco chewing, beer drinking, *add stereotype of choice*, NASCAR fans? Oh, the wonderful ways in which movies are bringing cultures together ;)
