Bombay as a tourist destination?

I wouldn't give more than a day or two to exploring most modern cities when travelling. Much as I love it, I would advise the same to anyone considering taking in Bombay's sights. The author of the following name-dropping travelogue seems to have spent too much time being overwhelmed by the city: Mumbai's Moment.

Linked to by India Uncut's Amit, who immediately identifies the most excessive statement, in an essay that reads like a listing of them:

The ladies who lunch don't speak of their philanthropic work to end the city's abject poverty. “There are simply too many suffering,” one socialite explained. “So we focus on things we can actually have an impact on, like art and gardening.”

And the pictures that accompany the article are more the same, more like an uninformative catalog than a descriptive introduction to a reluctant world city.
