Okay, so its a tired and outdated stereotype, but "Lawyer, doctor, engineer" does make for a fun post title. But I'm genuinely curious as to Sudhir Venkatesh's parents reaction when he proposed a life of academia/researching voilent gangs in Chicago.

The opporunity to look bad ass is self evident, but I'm guessing that wasn't on his list of 'pros' when running the idea by his folks.
